![]() ![]() Mosca, with her nighttime name, is presumed to have a nighttime nature as well (not entirely false, as she is an accomplished thief, liar, and spy), but this reputation ends up standing her in good stead as she gathers the information and forms the strategies that enable the truth to be revealed. Toll is a strangely divided city: half the population is active in daylight, and the other half at night, with the divisions based on the eccentric collection of deities that rule the days and the hours and determine the names and status of those born under their designated watch times. ![]() Mosca's ability to read makes her privy to a kidnapping plot set to take place in Toll, and she and Eponymous decide that alerting the Mayor is a sure way to a fat purse. ![]() Running away must always at some point become running to, but to get to where the living, or at least the pickings, will be easier for a pair of seasoned and far-too-well-known con artists, Mosca and company must pass through the gated city of Toll. After running afoul of the powerful and sinister Locksmith Guild in Mandelion (in Fly by Night, BCCB 9/06), the intrepid Mosca finds herself on the run with her silver-tongued companion, portly fraudster Eponymous Clent, and her violent goose, Saracen. ![]()
